Ricki Lake: ' I Can't Believe I was Fat'

Ricki Lake has trimmed 140 lbs.from her all-time top weight of 270 pounds – and says she is holding steady.  "I can’t believe I was a fat person for most of my life," the former talk show host, rocking a sexy black Herve Leger dress (size small), told PEOPLE at a recent benefit for the New Space for Women's Health, a New York City birthing center slated to open in 2010.  "I didn’t have surgery and I worked hard. There's no secret. I’m active. I watch what I eat," Lake, 40, adds.  But she's certainly not immune to the pressure to stay thin. "According to Hollywood standards, I'm not a thin girl. I’m a normal girl," says the mom of two boys, Milo, 11, and Owen, 6. "I don’t want to perpetuate that obsession but yet I am also guilty of wanting ... to lose weight." 

"I'm just grateful that I have sons and not daughters because it’s that much harder," she says.  Lake sticks to meals delivered by a service called Fresh Dining ("It's organic, it's fresh, and I still love it," she says) but admits unpredictable factors in life could one day interfere. 

"With the weight stuff I don't have any answers," she says. "Something tragic in my life could happen and I could balloon and gain weight. I can’t promise I will be like this forever."  Recently, Lake has been focusing on making a sequel to her 2007 documentary The Business of Being Born, and is working on a guide to pregnancy, due out in May.  And with the holidays in full swing? "I will be really conscious because I have this book coming out and I want to look great," she says. "I don’t need to lose anymore weight. [But] I don’t want to go backwards. So I'm not going to pig out this Christmas."

Black Friday Turns Deadly at a New York Wal-Mart

Our thoughts go out to the family of Jdimytai Damour, the Wal-Mart employee who was TRAMPLED TO DEATH by early morning shoppers at a New York Wal-Mart.

The New York Times reports that at about 4:55 am on Friday, a crowd of more than 2,000 who had come out for holiday deals forced their way into the Valley Stream, NY store. The six or so workers manning the front could not hold the unruly crowd back. Witnesses said the doors shattered and 'the shrieking mob surged through in a blind rush for holiday bargains. and Jdimytai Damour was 'thrown back onto the black linoleum tiles and trampled in the stampede that streamed over and around him.'

The detective in charge of the investigation said the store lacked adequate security.

He also went on to call the scene “utter chaos” and said the “crowd was out of control" and that those who ran over the victim could face criminal charges.

“I’ve heard other people call this an accident, but it is not. Certainly it was a foreseeable act,” said the detective.

A witness told the media that shoppers behaved badly even as the store was being cleared AFTER the death, “When they were saying they had to leave, that an employee got killed, people were yelling, ‘I’ve been on line since yesterday morning. They kept shopping.”

Unbelievable.

Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z looked like they were having a blast on a date at the Knicks-Cavaliers game in NYC last night. Beyonce's double album scored the top spot on the charts her opening week, and she expressed her excitement in between performances on The Today Show this morning. Dressed in an all black catsuit, Beyonce and Sasha Fierce took turns singing songs, and she spoke to Matt Lauer about her intense character role in Cadilac Records. She'll be back to showing off her acting skills when the movie is out next week, but for now we'll keep Practicing the "Single Ladies" dance over the long weekend.

Although Obama's plan does not require that all people get health insurance, he says he will make sure that all children are covered. When children are born, their parents will be required to enroll them in an insurance plan or sign up for a program like Medicaid or the State Children's Health Insurance Program (which are government programs designed to help cover lower income families). One way that this requirement may be enforced is by requiring children to show proof of insurance when they enroll in school, according to a paper published by policy research group American Enterprise Institute.

Affordable Insurance for Everyone
Health insurance will not be required for all adults under Obama's plan, but he does propose a way to make it easier to get and cheaper for anyone who wants it. In his campaign materials, he promised that anyone who already has an insurance plan they like will be able to keep it. However, he has also suggested creating a national insurance program and a national pool of private insurance plans, where people who are not insured can choose one. He also plans to expand Medicaid to cover more people.

Employer Insurance Requirements
Obama's plan also calls for all businesses to offer health insurance to their workers. The companies that don't provide insurance will be forced to pay an additional tax, which will go toward paying for the national insurance and insurance pool, according to a study by the Lewin Group, a health care policy research group. He also proposes to provide help to small business owners who may not be able to afford to provide health care or pay the tax.

As for performing, she added, "Of course I'd love to. Who wouldn't?" Hey, let's all be disappointed! Did you hear that President-elect Barack Obama is already a huge sell-out? He's not even going to cut Joe Lieberman's nuts off! (We think it's dumb to give Lieberman subpoena power over the incoming president but whatever, it's Barry's call.) Now, he's apparently going to let Hillary Clinton be Secretary of State. That is, it you believe The Guardian. The lefty UK paper says the Clinton selection is a done deal, though no US paper has been quite so bold. Michael Wolff thinks this is brilliant media strategy on the part of either the Obamas or the Clintons, to punish the New York Times for some unspecified crime or simply to bypass them in order to teach them a lesson about who's in charge. We, uh, aren't so sure. Neither the Clintons or the Obamas seemed to show much favor to the foreign press during the campaigns, and no UK paper, let alone The Guardian, was handed a scoop of this magnitude over the domestic press. So why now? As Wolff points out, the Europeans love Bill Clinton much more than we do, here where he used to run things, because we had to see his shorty red face so much during the primaries. So maybe it's just wishful thinking?

Beyonce is in awe of Justine Timberlake after he played one of her backup dancers on Saturday Night Live last weekend. "I still can't believe he did that. He was incredible," Beyoncé, 27, said on The Ed Lover Show (Power 105. 1). "We rehearsed it two times. He picked up the choreography. He has this photographic memory. He could probably kill it if he wanted to." Timberlake, in a black leotard and high heels, danced to "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," one of the tracks off Beyoncé's new album, I Am … Sasha Fierce. The singer said she is ready for people to see her through the album. "With this project, I went with simplicity, because I've done everything," Beyoncé said. "Half of the album is my album that I love, called I Am, and half is for the fans, called Sasha Fierce." Her Alter EgoSasha Fierce is the singer's sensual, aggressive alter ego, but don't expect her to surface anywhere but the stage. "Sasha Fierce was born when I did 'Crazy in Love.' Kanye West is to music what Michael Jordan was to basketball at least that's what West thinks, in his humble estimation. "I realize that my place and position in history is that I will go down as the voice of this generation, of this decade, I will be the loudest voice," he said in an interview on Wednesday. "It's me settling into that position of just really accepting that it's one thing to say you want to do it and it's another thing to really end up being like Michael Jordan." The Grammy-winning rapper-producer said Justin Timberlake had a chance to be music's MVP, but hasn't put out enough material. (Timberlake's last album was in 2006, while West released a CD last year and is releasing his latest "808s and Heartbreak" on Nov. 24.) "There were people who had the potential to do it but they went on vacation, so when Justin went on vacation I made albums," he said. "And it just came out to be that." West, 31, said life has been difficult since his mother's death. Donda West died last November after having plastic surgery. "I'm just going through balancing that. And I always used to have that support system, you know. My mom would be there; no matter what, she was there before everything," he said. "We were together for like 30 years. And you know now when I'm on that stage and I look out and I say, 'What am I going to do with the rest of my life?' Like when does a real life start?' Because I have sacrificed real life to be a celebrity and to give this art to people, which is great. While he may have lost his bid for the White House, John McCain did not lose his sense of humor. "I've been sleeping like a baby," the GOP candidate said on The Tonight Show Tuesday. "I sleep two hours, wake up and cry. Sleep two hours, wake up and cry." The Arizona senator's 14th visit to the show brought a loud and spontaneous ovation from Jay Leno's special Veteran's Day audience of U.S. service men and women. Noting that Americans "don't like a sore loser," McCain defended his choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate and of Joe the Plumber as his campaign everyman. Asked why he thought he lost, he deadpanned: "I think my personality. Or maybe too many people saw me on the Jay Leno show." Avoided the Newspaper On the day after the election, McCain said he and wife Cindy celebrated, if not a political victory, at least their release from the smothering oversight of the Secret Service. "We got in the car and we went down to get a cup of coffee," he said. "Not the newspaper though. We knew what it would say." McCain called Barack Obama "a good and decent person," adding, "I salute and admire the Senator, uh, President-elect Obama." Leno noted that there seemed to be "two McCains" one the funny Tonight Show guest and the other a not-so-entertaining presidential candidate. "Well," said McCain, "these are tough times. Frankly, I don't think people wanted a stand-up comic." Proud of Sarah PalinAlthough some polls – and any number of reports from unnamed "top advisors" – suggest that Palin hurt his candidacy, McCain would hear none of it. "Nah," he said. "Sarah Palin and her husband. ... I'm so proud of her and very grateful she agreed to run with me. She inspired people and she still does. There was plenty about Barbara Walters's interview with the controversial "pregnant man" Thomas Beatie that "floored her" but what really got her? He's pregnant again! "I looked at him and I said, 'Are you pregnant again?" Walters revealed on The View Thursday when promoting her special What Is a Man, What Is a Woman? Journey of a Pregnant Man. "The baby will be born in June," she confirmed, adding, "I'm speechless."Beatie is in his first trimester and tells Walters that he did not resume taking testosterone after his daughter Susan's birth so he could have another baby. Beatie's wife, Nancy, is unable to have children because she had a hysterectomy. The interview with Walters is the couple's first since taking to people after Susan's birth in June. It airs Friday night at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.

Bill Cosby has long bristled at suggestions that his pioneering NBC comedy, "The Cosby Show," was somehow unrealistic in its portrayal of a black upper-middle-class family.So with the Obama family set to take up residence in the White House, Cosby reflected on those statements last week with a chuckle. "For all those people who said they didn't know any black people like the Huxtables," quipped Cosby in a phone interview, "all I can say is, 'Will you watch the show now?' "The entertainer and comedian, who was promoting Tuesday's release of the 25th anniversary box set of "The Cosby Show," also admitted to being pleased with observations about the role of the so-called "Huxtable factor" in Obama's victory. When 'The Cosby Show' was on, that was America's family. It wasn't a black family. It was America's family.""The Cosby Show" broke ground in its depiction of a black family during its eight-season run from 1984 to 1992. The wildly successful show kicked off a formidable comedy block on Thursday nights and helped to convert the network into a ratings powerhouse for years."I like what people are saying now," said Cosby. US President George W. Bush said Tuesday that he had reached out by telephone to his predecessor, Bill Clinton, before talks with president-elect Barack Obama at the White House on Monday. "'Bill, I'm getting ready to meet with the new president and I remember how gracious you were to me. And I hope I can be as gracious to president-elect Obama as you were to me,'" Bush told CNN in a description of the call. But the US president, who leaves office January 20 after eight years, declined to give details of the Monday meeting with the 44th US president following his decisive November 4 victory. "To the extent that he asked my advice and he may want to ask it again, and the best way to make sure he feels comfortable asking it again is for me not to tell you in the first place what I advised him," he said. Among things he said he regretted during his presidency, Bush listed the "Mission Accomplished" banner that served as the backdrop to his May 1, 2003 speech announcing the end of major combat in Iraq, where about 152,000 US troops remain. "They had a sign that said Mission Accomplished. I regret that that sign was there," said Bush, who also reaffirmed he also regretted using rhetoric some saw as brash, such as calling for Osama bin Laden "dead or alive." "It was a sign aimed at the sailors on that ship however it conveyed a broader knowledge. To some it said 'well Bush thinks the war in Iraq is over' when I didn't think that. But nevertheless it conveyed the wrong message," he said. Bush expressed minimal regret that his chosen successor John McCain lost to Obama, saying "my choice didn't win," and saying that the Democrat's victory was "good for the country" -- and that his success was in America's interest. "It is good for our country that people have hope in the system and feel vested in the future and president-elect Obama has a great opportunity. I really do wish him all the best," said Bush. "It is good for our country that the president succeeds. The transition that we are working with him on is a genuine effort to help him be able to deal with the pressures and the complicated issues of the presidency," he said. Bush detailed how Obama, after their policy discussion, had raised "his little girls, how would they like the White House" and that during a tour of the residence section of the mansion "he wanted to see where his little girls were going to sleep." "Clearly this guy is going to bring a sense of family to the White House," said the president. "I know his girls are on his mind and he wants to make sure that first and foremost he is a good dad. I think it's going to be an important part of his presidency."

"What would be better than Wonder Woman?" she tells the Los Angeles Times. "It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It's time for that, right?" The singer-actress, 27, has met with representatives at DC Comics and Warner Bros. to discuss donning the red, white and blue bathing suit on screen, she says. "After doing these roles that were so emotional I was thinking to myself, 'OK, I need to be a superhero,'" Beyoncé tells the Times. "Although, when you think about the psychology of the heroes in the films these days, they are still a lot of work, of course, and emotional. But there's also an action element that I would enjoy." Her interest in the role was strengthened earlier this year when she went to New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and saw on display Lynda Carter's iconic costume. "I would definitely have to keep it right for that costume," she says. "But I love Wonder Woman and it'd be a dream come true to be that character. It sure would be handy to have that lasso."

Tuesday November 04, 2008. for some reason today i got up at 5:00 am and i couldn't go back to sleep so i just lay there and think about life and what it as to offer for me. than i got up at 6:45 am and starting to get dress. i final left the house at 7:23 am, i walk to the bus stop and waited like 2 minutes for the bus. for some crazy reason i got to the job at 8:30 am i was crazy reason. i sat at my desk and search the web for a while and i started to chick chat with with a coworker.

Police Have Hudson Murder Weapon

According to new reports, a handgun - that was discovered on Wednesday in close proximity to where the body of Jennifer Hudson's nephew was found - IS the weapon that was used in the Hudson family killings.

Police immediately had suspected that the gun was a match because the unfired bullets in the gun matched the make and model of shell casings found at the murder scene.

Forensics test have confirmed the police's hunch.

Sources also revealed that said gun was traced to its original owner in Michigan, who reported it stolen.
